In the Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling, what position does Harry play in Quidditch?

The story behind the answer

In J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books, Harry plays Seeker in Quidditch.

A Seeker’s main task is to catch the Golden Snitch, a small flying ball whose capture usually ends the match and awards 150 points. Harry’s exceptional flying ability makes him the youngest Hogwarts Quidditch Seeker in a century, according to the series.

Harry plays for Gryffindor, while other players fill the roles of three Chasers, two Beaters, and one Keeper. The position is dangerous because Seekers often pursue the Snitch high above the pitch and can become targets for opposing players.

The sport was invented by Rowling for the books and became one of the series’ most recognizable pieces of wizarding culture. Its name comes from the village of Queerditch Marsh, where an early broomstick game was played.
