In 'The Great British Bake Off' series 1, who won the competition?

The story behind the answer

Edd Kimber won series 1 of 'The Great British Bake Off' in 2010.

Kimber defeated fellow finalists Ruth Clemens and Miranda Gore Browne in the first final of the British baking competition. He was known on the programme as “The Boy Who Bakes” and later published cookbooks and worked as a food writer. His victory established the show’s basic structure: amateur bakers compete in weekly Signature, Technical and Showstopper challenges.

The first series aired on BBC Two, before the programme later moved to BBC One and eventually to Channel 4. The show is often called “Bake Off” in Britain, while the title “The Great British Baking Show” is commonly used in the United States because of trademark considerations. Later champions such as Nadiya Hussain and Nancy Birtwhistle are frequently remembered because of their especially popular series, but neither won the inaugural competition. The first season’s judges were Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry, with Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins presenting.
