In the Genesis dimensions, how high was Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

In the Genesis dimensions, Noah’s Ark was 30 cubits high.

Genesis 6:15 lists the height alongside the ark’s length and width: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. The measurement uses the ancient cubit, so its exact modern equivalent cannot be known with certainty.

With a commonly used estimate of about 45 centimetres per cubit, 30 cubits would be approximately 13.5 metres, or around 44 feet. Historical cubits differed, so this conversion is best treated as an estimate rather than a precise measurement.

The height was one part of a design that also included three decks and an opening near the top. The biblical account does not describe a pointed bow, sails, or a conventional steering system. Those features are common in later artistic depictions but are not specified in Genesis.
