In the Genesis account of Noah’s Ark, a dove returned with an olive leaf.
After the floodwaters began to recede, Noah sent birds from the ark to test whether dry land had appeared. Genesis 8 first mentions a raven, which went back and forth. Noah then sent a dove, but it initially found no resting place and returned to him.
Seven days later, Noah sent the dove again. This time it came back in the evening carrying a freshly plucked olive leaf. The leaf showed Noah that the waters had fallen enough for vegetation to emerge or become reachable. After another seven days, the dove did not return.
The olive branch later became a widely recognized symbol of peace, although Genesis itself presents it as evidence that the floodwaters were receding. The raven and dove are separate birds in the account, so the correct answer is not the raven.
