In the first Assassin's Creed game, what is the name of the Assassin protagonist set in 1191?

The story behind the answer

The Assassin's Creed protagonist in the 1191 setting is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

Altaïr is the central playable Assassin in the original 2007 game. The story follows his fall from grace after a failed mission in Solomon's Temple and his efforts to regain rank by eliminating targets during the Third Crusade.

The game takes place mainly in the cities of Jerusalem, Acre, and Damascus. Altaïr's mentor is Al Mualim, the leader of the Assassin bureau in Masyaf. His name is sometimes shortened to Altaïr, but the full character name is Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

Altaïr is not Ezio Auditore, who leads Assassin's Creed II and its follow-ups. He also predates later protagonists such as Connor Kenway and Edward Kenway. The first game establishes the series' recurring conflict between Assassins and Templars, as well as the Animus framing story.
