In The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda’s home during Luke Skywalker’s training is Dagobah.
Dagobah is a remote, swamp-covered planet in the Star Wars galaxy. Luke travels there after receiving guidance from the spirit of Obi-Wan Kenobi, who tells him to seek out Yoda. Although Luke expects a powerful Jedi Master, Yoda initially appears as a small, eccentric creature and tests Luke’s patience before revealing his identity.
Much of the film’s second act takes place in Yoda’s isolated hut and the surrounding wetlands. The setting emphasizes concealment: Yoda has hidden on Dagobah since the fall of the Jedi Order and avoids the Galactic Empire. The planet’s strange wildlife and misty landscape also create a strong contrast with the industrial environments elsewhere in the film.
Dagobah is sometimes confused with Hoth, the frozen world where the film opens, or Bespin, the gas giant containing Cloud City. Dagobah is specifically associated with Yoda’s exile and Luke’s Jedi training.
