Evan Davis presented the British TV show Dragons' Den when it first aired in 2005.
Davis is an economist, journalist and broadcaster who became the programme's original presenter. His role was to introduce entrepreneurs, provide context around their businesses and guide viewers through the pitch process, while the Dragons questioned the contestants and negotiated possible deals.
The presenter is not one of the investors. That distinction matters because the format's most visible personalities are the Dragons, whose individual questioning styles and business backgrounds became central to the programme's identity. Davis supplied continuity around the panel rather than making investment decisions.
Davis later became especially associated with BBC current-affairs broadcasting, including presenting Newsnight and other BBC programmes. This can cause confusion with later Dragons' Den presenters, but the original presenter was already established when the British version began. The programme's presenting role has changed over time, while the basic entrepreneur-versus-investor structure has remained recognizable.
