Duncan Bannatyne, an original Dragon on the British TV show Dragon's Den, founded the Bannatyne Group.
The Bannatyne Group developed into a major health-club and hotel business under Bannatyne's leadership. His background also included care homes and other enterprises, giving him experience across several service industries before and during his television career.
Bannatyne joined the original British investor panel when the programme launched in 2005. In the Den, he became known for assessing whether a founder understood the numbers and whether the proposed business could produce a realistic return. He left the regular panel after several series, while Peter Jones continued as the show's permanent original Dragon.
The Bannatyne Group should not be confused with the investment businesses associated with other Dragons. The programme deliberately assembled investors with different commercial backgrounds, so identifying each Dragon's best-known company is a useful way to distinguish them.
