Duncan Bannatyne founded the Bannatyne Group, which became one of the UK's largest health-club businesses.

Bannatyne began his career in business with ventures including an ice-cream company and care homes. He later expanded into the health and fitness sector, building a chain of health clubs, spas and hotels under the Bannatyne name.

He became a Dragon on the British version of Dragons' Den and was known for direct questioning and a willingness to pursue deals in businesses he understood. His entrepreneurial background extended well beyond the television programme.

The Bannatyne Group is not the same as Bannatyne's charitable work or his earlier businesses. The company name refers to the commercial health-and-leisure group founded by the investor himself.
