In the British TV show Dragon's Den, what phrase does an investor traditionally say when leaving a pitch?

The story behind the answer

On the British TV show Dragon's Den, an investor traditionally says “I'm out” when leaving a pitch.

The phrase signals that the Dragon has decided not to make an offer and will no longer participate in negotiations for that business. It became one of the programme's most recognisable pieces of language because each pitch can involve several investors withdrawing at different moments.

“I’m out” is not the same as “no deal.” A Dragon may say the former to remove themselves while other Dragons continue questioning the entrepreneur or making offers. The entrepreneur can therefore still receive investment after one or more Dragons have stepped away.

The expression is closely associated with the wider Dragons' Den and Shark Tank family of formats, but the wording can vary between countries. On the British programme, the short phrase is the familiar declaration of withdrawal.
