The first episode of the British TV show Dragon's Den aired in 2005.
The programme premiered on BBC Two and adapted the format of the Japanese business show Money Tigers. Entrepreneurs enter a studio and present businesses or inventions to a panel of wealthy investors, known as dragons.
The British series became one of the best-known versions of the international Dragons' Den franchise. Its early panel included Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Theo Paphitis and Simon Woodroffe.
The show has had many dragons over the years, but Peter Jones is particularly associated with the programme because he has remained on the panel since the beginning. Dragon's Den is sometimes confused with the US format Shark Tank, which is a separate adaptation of the same broader investment-pitch concept.
