In the British TV series Dragons' Den, who was the original presenter when it premiered in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis was the original presenter of the British TV series Dragons' Den when it premiered in 2005.

Davis, an economist and BBC journalist, guided entrepreneurs through their pitches and the Dragons' questioning. His role was to introduce each business, manage the transitions and provide brief explanations for viewers, rather than decide whether an investment should be made.

The presenter is sometimes confused with the investors because the programme's format gives the Dragons most of the screen time. Davis was later succeeded by other presenters, including Evan Davis's replacement, presenter and comedian Richard Osman for a period, while the investor panel also changed repeatedly.

The British series adapted the international Dragons' Den format and became a long-running BBC programme. Davis is also well known for presenting the BBC's economic and political programmes, including Newsnight and Dragon's Den's later spin-off discussion coverage.
