In the British TV series Dragon's Den, entrepreneurs present their businesses in the room called the Den.
The Den is the programme's central setting. Entrepreneurs enter it one at a time, deliver a prepared pitch and then answer questions from the investors, who are known collectively as the Dragons. The name supplies the show's title and gives the presentation a deliberately challenging, high-pressure atmosphere.
A typical pitch includes the amount of money requested, the percentage of equity offered and an explanation of the product or business. The Dragons may interrupt with questions about sales, costs, profit, intellectual property, competition and the entrepreneur's valuation. They may then make an offer, negotiate or declare that they are out.
The Den is not the same as the Boardroom used in The Apprentice. That is a separate programme with a different format and host. The familiar phrase “I'm out” is also associated with Dragon's Den negotiations, but it is a decision by an individual Dragon rather than the name of the room.
