The British TV series Dragons' Den first aired in 2005.
The programme debuted on BBC Two on 4 January 2005. It adapted the international Dragons' Den format, in which entrepreneurs present business proposals to wealthy investors and negotiate for investment in exchange for equity.
The British edition followed earlier versions of the format in Japan and Canada. Its central feature is the pitch: entrepreneurs must explain their product, sales, valuation and investment request while the investors question their figures and commercial plans.
The programme has remained associated with BBC Two and has run for many series. It is sometimes confused with the similarly formatted BBC business show The Apprentice, but Dragons' Den focuses on entrepreneurs seeking private investment rather than candidates competing for employment.
