In the British television show Dragons' Den, who was the first female investor to join the panel?

The story behind the answer

Rachel Elnaugh was the first female investor to join the panel of the British television show Dragons' Den.

Elnaugh joined the programme when it moved into its second series in 2005. She was already known as the founder of Red Letter Days, a company selling experience gifts such as driving days and adventure activities.

Her appointment came before Deborah Meaden became a prominent regular investor. Meaden joined the panel later and became one of the show's best-known long-serving Dragons, which can cause confusion about who was first.

Elnaugh left the programme after the third series. Her business career and Dragons' Den appearances made her one of the earliest high-profile female investors associated with the British version of the format.
