In the British television show Dragon's Den, who presented the programme from its 2005 launch until 2013?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented the British television show Dragon's Den from its 2005 launch until 2013.

Davis, an economist and broadcaster, became the programme's first presenter when the BBC brought the international Dragons' Den format to the United Kingdom. He introduced entrepreneurs, explained the pitch process and helped viewers follow negotiations over equity and investment.

He left the programme after the 2012 series, and the BBC subsequently appointed comedian and presenter Gary Lineker as host for a period before later presenters took over. Davis is also known for presenting BBC Radio 4's Today programme and other current-affairs broadcasts.

A common mix-up is confusing the presenter with one of the investors, or “Dragons”. Davis did not sit on the investment panel: his role was to facilitate the pitches while the Dragons decided whether to make offers. The programme remains a BBC business-entertainment series based on the Japanese format Money Tigers.
