In the British television show Dragon's Den, who presented the programme for its first 12 series?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented the British television show Dragon's Den for its first 12 series.

Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster who joined Dragon's Den when the programme began in 2005. His role was to introduce the entrepreneurs, explain the proposed investments and help viewers follow the negotiations without acting as one of the investors.

He remained the show's presenter through its original BBC Two era and left after series 12. Davis later became best known for presenting BBC current-affairs and news programmes, including Newsnight and PM on BBC Radio 4.

A common mix-up is confusing the presenter with the Dragons themselves. Davis did not invest in the businesses on screen; the entrepreneurs pitched to the investor panel. The presenting role subsequently passed to comedian and broadcaster Sarah Greene.
