Shaun Pulfrey invented the Tangle Teezer hairbrush.
Pulfrey developed the product after working as a hair colourist and observing how conventional brushes could pull and damage hair. The Tangle Teezer uses flexible teeth designed to move through tangles rather than simply forcing a rigid brush through them. Pulfrey initially presented the invention on Dragon's Den, where he did not secure an investment.
Despite the television rejection, the product went on to build a substantial international business through retail sales and online distribution. Its later success is often cited as an example of a pitch outcome not determining a product's eventual commercial performance.
Tangle Teezer is sometimes confused with other famous Dragon's Den products, especially Trunki, the children's ride-on suitcase. They are separate businesses and inventions. Shaun Pulfrey is associated with the detangling hairbrush, while Trunki was created by entrepreneur Rob Law.
