Duncan Bannatyne was an original Dragon on the British television show Dragon's Den and is associated with the Bannatyne Group.
Bannatyne built businesses in areas including care homes, health clubs and hotels. The Bannatyne Group became particularly associated with health clubs and spas, giving him a business background that differed from the technology and retail experience of some fellow investors.
He joined the original investor line-up when the British programme launched in 2005. On the show, he evaluated proposals by asking about revenue, margins, ownership and the amount of equity offered.
Bannatyne is sometimes confused with Peter Jones because both were long-serving Dragons. Jones, however, is the British technology and communications entrepreneur, while Bannatyne is the Scottish businessman whose name appears in the Bannatyne Group.
