The British television show Dragons' Den first aired on BBC Two in 2005.
The programme is a British adaptation of the Japanese business-reality format Money Tigers. Entrepreneurs present business ideas to wealthy investors, known as dragons, and seek financial backing in exchange for an ownership stake in their company.
BBC Two was the BBC channel associated with the programme when it launched. The first episode was broadcast on 4 January 2005. The series later became one of the BBC's best-known factual-entertainment formats and remained strongly identified with the BBC brand.
A common mix-up is confusing the British series with the similarly titled versions made in other countries. Dragons' Den is the usual British spelling, while Dragon's Den is often used informally when referring to the franchise. The programme's investors, negotiations and memorable pitches have also made it a frequent subject of business and popular-culture discussion.
