Ryman is the stationery retailer most closely associated with Dragons' Den investor Theo Paphitis.
Paphitis acquired Ryman, a British stationery retailer, in 1995. The chain traces its history to a shop founded by Henry Ryman in London in 1893, making it one of the long-established names in British stationery retail.
Paphitis expanded his business interests beyond stationery and became known for investments in retail, consumer brands and property. He joined Dragons' Den as a Dragon in the programme's early years and became one of its best-known investors.
Ryman can be confused with WHSmith because both operate in British stationery retail. They are separate companies. Paphitis is also associated with the lingerie retailer Boux Avenue, but Ryman is the distinctive answer when a question asks for his stationery chain.
