The room where entrepreneurs make their pitches on the British television show Dragon's Den is called the Den.
The Den is the programme's central set, where entrepreneurs stand before the investor panel and present their businesses. Its deliberately sparse design helps focus attention on the pitch, the financial request and the Dragons' reactions. The title also supplies the show's main metaphor: the investors are “dragons”, and entering their room creates the pressure of facing them directly.
The presentation normally includes a product or demonstration followed by questioning about sales, margins, valuation and ownership. The entrepreneurs may leave with an offer, no offer or competing offers from several Dragons.
The Den is not the same as the production offices or the area where the entrepreneurs wait before filming. Those behind-the-scenes spaces are part of the television production, while “the Den” specifically means the pitch setting familiar to viewers.
