Money Tigers is the international format that inspired the British television show Dragons' Den.
The format originated in Japan, where entrepreneurs pitch businesses to wealthy investors who decide whether to offer money in exchange for an ownership stake. The UK adaptation retained the central pitch-and-negotiation structure while giving the investors the title “Dragons.”
Shark Tank is a later American adaptation of the same broad format and is often named by mistake when people are asked about the UK programme’s origin. The distinction matters because Money Tigers is the Japanese source format, whereas Shark Tank is the United States version. Dragons' Den subsequently received adaptations in numerous other countries.
