In the British television series Dragon's Den, who presented the programme from its first episode in 2005?

The story behind the answer

Evan Davis presented the British television series Dragon's Den from its first episode in 2005.

Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster who became the programme's original presenter. His role was to introduce entrepreneurs, explain the investment proposals and guide viewers through the negotiations with the panel of business investors, known as the Dragons.

Dragon's Den is the British version of an international format in which business owners pitch for investment in exchange for equity. The programme began on BBC Two and later became strongly associated with the BBC's factual-entertainment schedule.

A common mix-up is confusing the presenter with the Dragons themselves. Davis did not normally invest in the businesses; the financial decisions belonged to the panel. He later became well known for presenting other BBC programmes, including Newsnight and The Bottom Line.
