In the British television series Dragons' Den, which investor founded the Bannatyne Group?

The story behind the answer

Duncan Bannatyne founded the Bannatyne Group, which became one of the businesses associated with him before and during his time on Dragons' Den.

The Bannatyne Group operates health clubs, spas and hotels in the United Kingdom. Its fitness-club expansion helped make Bannatyne a familiar name in British business, while his television appearances introduced him to a much wider audience.

The group should not be confused with a company founded by Peter Jones or James Caan, two other investors who appeared on different series of the programme. Bannatyne's distinctive accent, blunt style and hospitality-and-fitness interests also made him easy for viewers to identify.

Bannatyne's business career began before Dragons' Den and included work in several sectors. His story is frequently used as an example of an entrepreneur who built substantial companies and then applied that experience to judging other founders' pitches.
