Dragon's Den first broadcast on BBC Two in 2005.
The British version premiered on 4 January 2005, adapting the Japanese business-investment format Money Tigers. Entrepreneurs present business ideas to a panel of wealthy investors, known as dragons, and seek investment in exchange for equity.
BBC Two was the programme's original home, although later episodes and special programming also appeared in other BBC scheduling arrangements. The show became one of the BBC's best-known factual-entertainment formats and helped introduce business pitching to a broad television audience.
The channel can be confused with BBC One because the programme developed a large mainstream audience. It is also distinct from the similarly formatted BBC series The Apprentice, which focuses on competition between candidates rather than entrepreneurs negotiating directly with investors.
