In the British television series Dragon's Den, entrepreneurs present their pitches in the room known as the Den.
The Den is the programme's central setting and gives the series its title. Entrepreneurs enter the room, state their business proposition and ask the dragons for a specified amount of money in return for a percentage of their company. The dragons then question them about the business and decide whether to make an offer.
The term is not simply a generic description of a television studio. It is the show's established name for the pitch room and is used in the programme's branding, narration and publicity. “The Boardroom” is a plausible mix-up because business negotiations are often associated with boardrooms, but it is not the programme's canonical term.
The Den also functions as a dramatic symbol: entrepreneurs must face several investors simultaneously, often without knowing whether any of them will make an offer. The setting has remained central even as presenters, dragons and studio designs have changed.
