In the British television series Dragons' Den, the investor panel is collectively called the Dragons.
The title comes from the programme's central image: entrepreneurs enter a den to face powerful businesspeople who can decide whether to invest. Each panel member is individually described as a Dragon, while the plural refers to the group as a whole.
The terminology is part of the British version's identity. In the American adaptation, Shark Tank, the investors are known as Sharks instead. Other international editions retain or adapt the Dragon language, so the wording depends on the country and format being discussed.
The Dragons are not the entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs pitch their businesses, request funding and offer equity. The panel evaluates those proposals, negotiates terms and may make an offer, although appearing on the programme does not by itself prove that a deal was completed.
