In the British television programme Dragon's Den, when did the first series premiere in the UK?

The story behind the answer

The first series of the British television programme Dragon's Den premiered on 4 January 2005.

The BBC introduced the programme as a British adaptation of the Japanese business format Money Tigers. Entrepreneurs enter a room and pitch their companies to a panel of wealthy investors, known as Dragons, seeking investment in exchange for equity.

The original panel included Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe. The programme became part of the BBC's long-running factual-entertainment schedule and later moved between BBC Two and BBC One.

The date is sometimes confused with the programme's first BBC One broadcast, which came later. Dragon's Den also has international versions, so references to its premiere date need to distinguish the British edition from adaptations in other countries.
