In the British television programme Dragon's Den, what is the name of the room where entrepreneurs pitch their businesses?

The story behind the answer

Entrepreneurs pitch their businesses in the room known as the Den on the British television programme Dragon's Den.

The Den is the programme's central setting. Contestants enter it to give a presentation to the investor panel, known as the Dragons, and then answer questions about their products, sales, costs and proposed deal. The name also supplies the title of the British programme.

A pitch normally includes a request for a stated amount of money in exchange for a percentage of the business. The Dragons can make offers, ask for different terms, collaborate with one another or decline to invest. The room therefore functions as both a presentation space and a negotiation arena.

Viewers sometimes use “Dragon's Den” to mean the whole programme, but technically the Den is the on-screen location where the business encounters take place. It should not be confused with a conventional boardroom: the contestants are usually founders or inventors seeking investment rather than employees reporting to directors.
