Duncan Bannatyne became famous on Dragon's Den as the entrepreneur behind Bannatyne Health Clubs.
Bannatyne built a business group that included health clubs, hotels and spas. The health-club operation became one of the most recognisable parts of his business career and was named after him. He joined the Dragon's Den panel in the programme's early years and became known for his direct style.
Before building his leisure businesses, Bannatyne had worked in several fields, including selling ice cream and operating care homes. His career is therefore broader than the gym chain most often associated with his name.
Bannatyne left the regular Dragon's Den panel in 2014. He has continued to be identified with entrepreneurship, charitable activity and public appearances, but he should not be confused with Peter Jones, Theo Paphitis or other Dragons who owned different businesses.
