John Caudwell founded the retail company Phones 4u, later appearing as a Dragon in the British series Dragon's Den.
Caudwell and his brother Brian built a telecommunications retail business that became Phones 4u. The company grew during the expansion of mobile-phone ownership in the United Kingdom and became a major high-street and online retailer.
John Caudwell joined Dragon's Den as an investor for the fourth series, bringing experience from mobile communications, retail and large-scale business growth. His philanthropic work later became a prominent part of his public profile through the Caudwell Children's charity.
Phones 4u is not the same company as a mobile network operator. It sold mobile phones and contracts from networks, while network companies supplied the underlying telecommunications service. That distinction helps separate Caudwell's business history from the panel roles of other Dragons.
