In the Book of Genesis, who builds Noah’s Ark on God’s instructions?

The story behind the answer

In the Book of Genesis, Noah builds Noah’s Ark on God’s instructions.

Genesis presents Noah as a righteous man chosen to survive a divinely sent flood. He constructs the vessel for himself, his family, and representatives of the animal world. The story is told in Genesis chapters 6–9 and is one of the best-known flood narratives in the Hebrew Bible.

The ark account says Noah receives detailed instructions about its materials, compartments, and dimensions. After the flood, Noah leaves the vessel and builds an altar. God then establishes a covenant with Noah and his descendants, making the rainbow a sign of that promise.

Noah is also an important figure in the Quran, where he is called Nuh, although the Quranic account differs in several details. The Genesis narrative should not be confused with earlier Mesopotamian flood stories, which feature different heroes and names.
