In the Book of Genesis, what length is given for Noah’s Ark in cubits?

The story behind the answer

The Book of Genesis gives Noah’s Ark a length of 300 cubits.

Genesis 6:15 records three dimensions for the vessel: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. The text does not define the cubit precisely, so modern conversions vary depending on which ancient measurement is used. A commonly cited estimate places the Ark at roughly 135 metres long, but that conversion is an approximation rather than a measurement stated in Genesis.

The proportions make the Ark much longer than it is wide or tall. Naval engineers and historians have often discussed whether those proportions would provide stability, but such modern analysis does not establish that the biblical vessel existed as a physical archaeological object.

The dimensions are sometimes confused with later artistic reconstructions, which may add details not supplied by Genesis. The biblical account also says the Ark had three decks, a roof, and a door in its side.
