The Book of Genesis describes Noah’s Ark as 50 cubits wide.
Genesis 6:15 lists the ark’s dimensions in a single instruction: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. These figures are expressed in cubits, an ancient unit whose precise length differed across cultures and periods.
A traditional cubit is often estimated at about 45 to fifty centimetres, making the ark’s stated width approximately 22 to 25 metres. That modern estimate remains approximate because the text does not define which cubit standard is intended.
The width is one of the details that makes the ark’s description resemble a large, box-like vessel rather than a conventional ship. Genesis gives no detailed plan for propulsion or steering; the account focuses on construction, preservation, and survival through the Flood.
