In the Book of Genesis, how high was Noah's Ark?

The story behind the answer

According to the Book of Genesis, Noah's Ark was 30 cubits high.

Genesis 6:15 lists the height together with the vessel's length and width: 300 cubits long, 50 cubits wide, and 30 cubits high. If a cubit is estimated at about 45 centimetres, 30 cubits would be approximately 13.5 metres, although ancient cubit lengths were not uniform.

Genesis 6:16 then describes the Ark as having lower, second, and third decks. This means the stated height was associated with a multi-level structure, not simply one open platform.

The deck arrangement is one reason the Ark is frequently compared with a large barge. The biblical account focuses on its capacity for people, animals, and supplies. It does not provide a complete technical description of the internal deck heights or construction methods.
