Noah built the ark before the Flood in the biblical account of Noah’s Ark.
In Genesis, God tells Noah to construct a large vessel because a devastating flood is coming. Noah is described as righteous and obedient, and he follows the instructions given to him. He builds the ark from wood, coats it with pitch, and brings aboard his family and representatives of the animals.
The story appears in Genesis chapters 6–9 and is also known through later Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions. In the Quran, Noah is called Nuh, and the vessel is likewise associated with survival through a great flood.
A common mix-up is assigning the ark to Moses, who is associated with a much smaller basket in the story of his infancy. Abraham is connected with the covenant and Isaac, while Solomon is associated with the First Temple. Noah is the builder and central human figure of the ark narrative.
