In the biblical account of Noah’s Ark, Noah is commanded to build the ark. Genesis presents Noah as a righteous man who receives divine instructions before a catastrophic flood. He is told to construct a large vessel, bring aboard his family, and preserve representatives of animal life.
The story appears in Genesis chapters 6–9, where Noah’s obedience is central to the narrative. The ark is not described as a ship intended for ordinary travel; it is a survival vessel designed to float during the flood. After the waters recede, Noah leaves the ark and makes an altar.
The name Noah also appears in the Quran, where Nuh builds the vessel after warning his people. Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions share major elements of the story, although details and interpretations differ. A common mix-up is assigning the ark’s construction to Moses, who belongs to a much later biblical narrative.
