Evan Davis was the original presenter of the BBC television show Dragon's Den when it first aired in 2005.
The British version launched on BBC Two on 4 January 2005. Davis, a BBC economics journalist and broadcaster, guided entrepreneurs through their pitches and questioned them about sales, profits, valuations and investment offers.
Davis remained associated with the programme for many years, although Dragon's Den later changed presenters. He was succeeded by broadcasters including Adrian Chiles, James Caan, and others in different presenting roles, while the panel of Dragons also changed substantially over time.
A common mix-up is confusing the programme's presenter with its investors. The Dragons sit behind the negotiating table and decide whether to invest; the presenter introduces the business owners and helps structure the pitch. Davis also became well known for presenting the BBC's Newsnight programme, but his Dragon's Den role came earlier in the show's British television history.
