Evan Davis presented the BBC series Dragons' Den when it first aired in 2005.
Davis is a British economist, journalist and broadcaster who became closely associated with the programme during its early years. As presenter, he introduced the entrepreneurs, explained the stakes of each pitch and provided continuity between the negotiations inside the den.
His role was different from that of the Dragons. The presenter did not normally decide whether a business received investment; that decision belonged to the investors sitting on the panel. The distinction matters because the format centres on negotiation between entrepreneurs and the Dragons, while the presenter guides viewers through the process.
Davis later became well known for presenting other BBC programmes, including Newsnight and the radio programme PM. Dragons' Den continued after his tenure with different presenters, but his early association remains part of the show's British television history.
