In the BBC programme Dragons' Den, “I'm out” is the investor panel's famous catchphrase when a Dragon rejects a pitch.
Entrepreneurs enter the Den seeking investment in exchange for a percentage of their company. After questioning the business owners, a Dragon can decline by saying “I'm out”, making clear that they will not continue negotiating.
The phrase became one of the show's most recognisable verbal signatures because it is short, decisive and easy to understand. A Dragon may also remain interested while changing the proposed investment terms, so leaving the negotiation is different from making a counteroffer.
The phrase is sometimes confused with the programme's title or with a general description such as “no deal”. However, the canonical wording used by the show is “I'm out”. The expression has also entered everyday language as a humorous way to withdraw from a proposal.
