In the BBC business show Dragons' Den, on which BBC channel was the programme first broadcast in 2005?

The story behind the answer

The BBC business show Dragons' Den was first broadcast on BBC Two in 2005.

The programme launched in the United Kingdom on 4 January 2005, adapting the format in which entrepreneurs pitch businesses to wealthy investors. BBC Two was then the BBC channel most closely associated with factual entertainment, documentaries and specialist factual programming, making it a natural home for the series.

The show later became one of the BBC’s best-known business programmes, but its channel history is sometimes confused with BBC One because of its broad mainstream audience and prominent evening scheduling. BBC Two remains the channel associated with its original UK launch.

The British version is part of an international franchise that originated in Japan. Different countries have used different titles, investors and broadcasters, but the central pitch-and-invest format remains recognisable across editions.
