In the 2017 Beauty and the Beast film, who played Gaston?

Luke Evans played Gaston in Disney’s 2017 live-action Beauty and the Beast.

Evans portrays Gaston as a celebrated former soldier whose confidence turns into entitlement when Belle refuses his advances. The character remains the film’s principal human antagonist, leading the villagers toward the Beast’s castle and singing the numbers “Gaston” and “The Mob Song.”

The role was originally voiced by Richard White in Disney’s 1991 animated film. In both versions, Gaston is contrasted with the Beast: Gaston appears socially admired but behaves cruelly, while the Beast must learn empathy and responsibility.

Evans is a Welsh actor known for film, television, and stage work. The 2017 cast also included Josh Gad as LeFou, Gaston’s companion, and Emma Watson as Belle. Luke Evans should not be confused with Dan Stevens, who played the Beast in the same adaptation.
