Kyle is Gru’s large, shaggy pet, initially presented as a creature that appears intimidating and somewhat dangerous. He lives at Gru’s home and laboratory, where his behavior adds comic tension to the household. The girls gradually become more comfortable with Kyle, despite his rough appearance.
Kyle is often mistaken for a Minion because he appears alongside Gru and has a memorable name beginning with the same sound as several Minion names. However, Kyle is a separate animal character and is not one of Gru’s yellow laboratory workers.
The pet’s name is established in the first film and remains connected with Gru’s household in later franchise appearances. The Minion names Kevin, Stuart, and Bob are especially likely to cause confusion, but none of them is Gru’s pet.
