In the 2007 movie "Norbit," Pope Sweet Jesus and Lord Have Mercy own the Rib Shak. The restaurant is a local barbecue business specializing in ribs, and it becomes one of the places where Norbit finds help and companionship.
Pope Sweet Jesus, played by Eddie Griffin, and Lord Have Mercy, played by Katt Williams, are introduced as former pimps who have retired from that life and opened the restaurant. Their past is part of the movie's deliberately exaggerated comedy, while the Rib Shak gives them a more respectable role in the community.
The Rib Shak is easy to confuse with the Golden Wonton, the Chinese restaurant and orphanage run by Mr. Wong, or the Latimore Construction Company, controlled by Rasputia and her brothers. Norbit also works for the construction company, but the barbecue restaurant belongs to Pope Sweet Jesus and Lord Have Mercy.
