In the 2007 film Bee Movie, Barry befriends a florist named Vanessa Bloome.
Barry B. Benson is a honeybee who leaves his hive and explores Manhattan. During a rainstorm, he ends up in Vanessa's apartment. Vanessa is a human florist, and unlike her boyfriend Ken, she does not try to kill Barry. She gently saves him, which leads Barry to break the bees' rule against speaking with humans.
Barry and Vanessa develop an unusually close friendship as the story unfolds. Their relationship drives the film's central conflict: Barry becomes concerned that humans exploit bees by taking their honey, so he challenges the honey industry and eventually helps restore the importance of flowers and pollination.
