In the 2002 James Bond film Die Another Day, the villainous Zao drives a Jaguar XKR.
Zao, played by Rick Yune, uses the car during the film’s ice-palace sequence in Iceland. The Jaguar is equipped with weapons and is involved in a vehicle confrontation with James Bond’s Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. The two cars represent the rival sides of the film’s high-tech automotive battle.
The XKR was Jaguar’s performance-oriented grand tourer, based on the XK8. Its supercharged engine distinguished it from the standard XK8, while the film adds fictional weaponry and other modifications for the action scenes.
The Jaguar is sometimes confused with later Jaguar sports cars, especially the F-Type, which was introduced years after Die Another Day. The XKR belongs to the XK generation marketed around the turn of the 21st century. Die Another Day was Pierce Brosnan’s fourth and final Bond film.
