In the 2001 film Shrek, which actor voices the ogre Shrek?

The story behind the answer

Mike Myers voices the ogre Shrek in the 2001 film Shrek.

Myers is a Canadian actor and comedian best known for Saturday Night Live, the Austin Powers films, and Wayne’s World. For Shrek, he used a distinctive Scottish accent that became one of the character’s defining traits.

The voice cast also includes Eddie Murphy as Donkey, Cameron Diaz as Princess Fiona, and John Lithgow as Lord Farquaad. Myers reportedly recorded much of the dialogue again after changing Shrek’s voice during production.

Shrek was DreamWorks Animation’s fourth feature film and became a major international success. It won the first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, helping establish the category as a prominent part of the Oscars. The film’s title character was inspired partly by William Steig’s 1990 picture book, although the movie expanded the story considerably.
