In the 1995 James Bond film GoldenEye, Bond is issued a BMW Z3 for his mission.
Q Branch presents the roadster to Bond after he returns to active service. The car is fitted with fictional equipment, including stinger missiles, a parachute braking system and a self-destruct feature. Bond drives it briefly in Cuba, but it is not the vehicle used in the famous Saint Petersburg tank chase.
The BMW Z3 was a compact two-seat roadster launched in the 1990s. GoldenEye helped give the model international visibility because it became the first BMW featured as Bond’s official car in an Eon-produced Bond film.
The Z3 is often mixed up with the BMW 750iL from Tomorrow Never Dies and the BMW Z8 from The World Is Not Enough. Those are different Bond cars from later films. GoldenEye was released in 1995 and marked Pierce Brosnan’s debut as James Bond.
