In the 1991 film Father of the Bride, Steve Martin played the father George Banks.
The film is a romantic comedy directed by Charles Shyer and adapted from the 1950 film of the same name. Martin’s George Banks is a prosperous businessman struggling emotionally with his daughter Annie’s wedding and the rapid changes it brings to family life.
Diane Keaton played Nina Banks, George’s wife, while Kimberly Williams made her film debut as Annie. Martin Short played Franck Eggelhoffer, the flamboyant wedding planner whose elaborate ideas increase George’s anxiety.
The film is sometimes confused with the 1950 original, in which Spencer Tracy played the father. Both versions centre on the father’s perspective, but Steve Martin is the George Banks of the 1991 remake.
